Call us optimists, be we feel the greatest benefit of AITP membership is the socializing. Not, just for the sake of shooting the breeze with your buddies from another company, but the capability to meet new people from other companies. These kinds of contacts come in handy a variety of ways--information about products you might be interested in, perhaps a new way to solve a problem, and, last but not least, finding and advertising a job. Did you know that most jobs are not found through ads in a newspaper, but through knowing about jobs that are never advertised, through networking?
We try to make it easy by holding a social hour, with a cash bar, before dinner and the presentation, where you can mix with other members and guests, and then perhaps sit down with them at dinner and discuss things further. We provide name tags to all attendees so you never have to ask (or remember!) who you're talking to.
Since AITP is a national organization, one of the benefits of membership is that the name will be recognized by other IT peers, in almost any state. You will be instantly recognized as someone who is interested in promoting your career by seeking others who share a set of ideals and high standards. Every January we publish a directory of our members. This gives you the opportunity to have all contact information about other members in one handy place, without you having to keep track of it separately. But don't worry, we don't give this information to anyone else, and we give you the opportunity to decide exactly what you want published, so you can keep anything private that you wish to.
